Archive for Jack Bauer
The producers of “24” were serious when they said they would not give Jack Bauer a happy ending. The May 24 finale saw the special agent fleeing from the country he served for years and being branded a fugitive.

The two-hour event put Bauer in a situation where he’s inching closer to assassinate the Russian leader conspiring to sabotage the peace agreement. U.S. President Taylor stopped Bauer from doing so and advised him to get out of the country because not only the Russians will hunt him down if he does, but the States too.
Thus, the teary ending saw Bauer entrusting his best friend Chloe in taking care of Kim and his granddaughter Terri. Chloe, drenched in tears, let him go, told Cole and Arlo to swear in secrecy and closed the series with “Whatever happened here didn’t happen. Understand? Shut it down.”
In an interview after the finale has aired, exec producer Howard Gordon talked to THR about where he thought Bauer is heading. He said, “In my mind, Jack is cut free but again he is a nomad. He’s a man without a country. The very country that he has served and obviously sacrificed everything for has basically spit him out again and he is a fugitive.”
The end of the series is not the last of Jack Bauer’s adventure. It has been pitched to be a feature film where Gordon will again become the producer. Giving an update to the progress, Gordon said, “Another draft is being written (by screenwriter Billy Ray). I don’t have a timetable. I think sooner rather than later is a good idea, but the people at Fox have their own timetable.”
He additionally confirmed to EW that it won’t be a prequel. “The movie has to defer to the end of the TV show, not the other way around,” he continued.

It’s the end of an era when the groundbreaking and iconic action-packed series comes full circle with the climactic “Day Eight.” On May 24, the Emmy-winning series “24” will air its very last episode in a two-hour finale taking place between “2:00 PM-4:00 PM“.

Emotions run high as the harrowing day climaxes with resolute President Taylor closing in on a world-changing peace treaty and a vengeful Jack Bauer taking matters into his own hands for one last and unforgettable job.
Showrunner Howard Gordon gave a little hint about the finale in a press conference last week, saying “We tried on a couple of very different endings for size and the one we came to at the end is the one that felt just right. So it was not for lack of trying a couple of different ways. But we knew it when we saw it, that this was the right way to do it.”
He confirmed, “One thing we tried and didn’t work was ‘happily ever after’ for Jack. …This show is a tragedy, and so to give Jack a happy ending just didn’t feel authentic,” and continued, “And going out to where the end and what we can expect is the things that were aligning, which were basically Chloe versus Jack versus President Taylor – we’re taking all these characters to places that we’ve never seen them before.”
For fans of hit TV show “24,” this will come as no great shock: The show’s executive producer Howard Gordon promised that when the action program finishes its run this month, an unhappy ending will greet Jack Bauer.
U.S. government agent Bauer, played by Kiefer Sutherland, has saved the world time and again and been thanked for his efforts with any number of personal tragedies, including the death of loved ones. So it seemed natural that in the final seconds of his final show, he should face hardship — again.
“(It) leaves him in a compromised place morally, ethically and emotionally,” Gordon said. “This show is a tragedy, and to give Jack a happy ending didn’t feel authentic.”
But Gordon remained mum on the specifics of how Bauer meets his unhappy fate. Still, beyond the end one thing is certain, there will be more of Jack Bauer to come — in movie theaters.
“24” began in 2001 as a novel concept for TV. The entire season elapsed in 24 fictional hours, with each one-hour episode being one hour of a day. A clock on TV screens ticked off the time, adding to the tension on the program.
The show proved to be a hit for the Fox network and gained a loyal following. It won an Emmy for best drama in 2006, and Sutherland was given a Golden Globe for acting in 2002.
Season 8 began in January with Bauer preparing for a quiet life, playing with his grand-daughter and smiling for only the second time in the show’s history. But within minutes, he was drawn back into action by the government, which needed help in foiling a plot to murder a Middle Eastern peace-keeper.
Since then, treachery, back-stabbing and a well-intentioned but misguided President Allison Taylor (portrayed by Cherry Jones) have landed Bauer back in hot water and the country in jeopardy. Will he save it?
Gordon’s not telling, but he did promise this: The writers are “taking him to a place he’s never been before.”
The final episode airs May 24, and while that may be the last episode for TV, plans are in the works for a movie based on the show and Bauer. Gordon said a first draft of a script has been written, and a second one is in the works.
“We’re honoring the series and the creative integrity of (Bauer) and then possibly bringing in a whole new group (of characters),” Gordon said. “What I do think is important is that we do not retread” over old ground.
